Second Sunday after Easter
SECOND SUNDAY AFTER EASTER
Psalm: 23
Epistle: 1 Peter 2:19-25
Gospel: John 10:11-18
Almighty God, Your Word teaches that salvation is found in no one else except in the Name of Jesus, Your Son. The Name “Jesus” means “the Lord saves.” From this, I learn that real and true salvation comes only from You, the Lord, the God of all peoples. To seek salvation with an honest and sincere heart is really to seek You. I believe that all who are on this search—regardless of race, culture, or creed—will find You, for You never forsake those who seek You. I believe that all who call on Your Name, by however they understand it, will be saved. I praise and worship You for the wideness of Your mercy, for it is like the wideness of the sea.
Father, the Apostles declared that they could not stop telling people about what they had seen and heard. They chose to obey God and continue to teach in Jesus’ Name rather than listen to the authorities. I confess to You all those times where I have failed to make this same choice, especially where it could have made a real difference. I regret that I have remained silent about my faith simply to avoid discomfort and shame, when it is for this very purpose that I have been called. I acknowledge a Savior who suffered taunts and insults for my sake, as an example of what a Christian life means, and I recognize that I have not followed in His footsteps.
Holy Spirit, I thank You because You do not let me continually wander in darkness and ignorance like a lost sheep. But rather, with Your grace and power, You cause me to come back again and again to the Good Shepherd, the Guardian of my soul. I am renewed and strengthened in the hope of Your infinite mercy. Whenever I stray, all I need to do is stop and turn back to You. You let me rest in green pastures of Your love. You lead me into the silent worship of still waters. You refresh my life. You restore my soul. You are always with me to comfort and guide me. You receive me with open arms and carry me home on Your shoulders.
Lord Jesus Christ, I look for the serenity of Your Presence to accompany me always. I ask that I may ever know, hear and heed Your voice whenever You call me, for You call me continually. You have other sheep to bring into your fold so that they may become one flock with one Shepherd. I pray that all the nations of the earth may come together in love, peace, and mutual respect. You do not desert Your own, but You protect Your flock from coming wolves. I call for an end to the senseless violence and bloodshed that threaten all who gather to seek and worship You. I entrust myself to the Good Shepherd, for You are good, and You bring forth good.
