Psalm: 34
Epistle: Romans 6:12-23
Gospel: Mark 8:1-9
ADORATION
Almighty God, I will always give thanks to You, and Your praise shall ever be in my mouth and on my lips. My soul boasts in You, seeks You, and is glad that You hear me. I rejoice in You, for You deliver me from all my fear and save me from all my troubles. I taste and see how gracious You are, not just in church or worship but also in all Your creation, which You have made in selfless love. You teach me to pursue honesty, goodness and peace. Your eyes are ever upon everyone who looks for You, and Your ear is always open to our prayers. I praise and worship You for being near to all who are of a contrite heart and humble spirit. You never abandon anyone who trusts You.
CONFESSION
Provident Father, when Your servant David was hungry, You fed him with the holy bread consecrated at the altar to Your Presence. I admit and confess that I fall short of Your example. I cling to the separation between what of my own I can give, and what I wish to keep for myself, when You are quick to erase that boundary for someone who is in need. David also had the boldness to ask for that which belonged to You in order to satisfy his bodily hunger. I acknowledge that You have made me worthy to ask for Your heavenly guidance to help me through my earthly journey. I affirm that I am Yours and You are mine, and so I have the right to ask for and be fed by Your Holy Spirit.
THANKSGIVING
Holy Spirit of Love, I thank You for Your grace which frees me to become a servant of God despite my weaknesses and imperfections. I thank You that, in You, I do not live under the letter of the law which kills, but rather under the freedom of Your Spirit which gives life. I thank You that, in You, You do not define me by my weaknesses and imperfections, but rather by Your grace and love. I bless You for willing to make me worthy of Your Presence in my life. I celebrate that, whenever I stray from Your path, I just need to stop, return and yield to the free gift of eternal life, which is the conscious and moment-to-moment participation in Your goodness and selflessness.
SUPPLICATION
Lord Jesus Christ, You had compassion on the multitude, desiring not to send them away hungry and weak, but rather that they eat and be satisfied. I pray to You: whenever anyone comes to me in distress, weakness or need, help me never to send that person away feeling empty or faint, but rather encouraged and filled with hope. You fed 4,000 people with just seven loaves and two fishes. Help me to realize that, more often than not, what little I have is enough; that it is less about the quantity of substance and more about the quality of presence that You ask me to give; and that when I give all I have in mindfulness and awareness, there will always be more than enough.
