Psalm: 54
Epistle: 1 Corinthians 12:1-11
Gospel: Luke 19:41-48
ADORATION
Almighty God, I praise You because You always come to my help for the sake of Your holy Name. You hear my imperfect prayers, and You listen to the words of my mouth. Meditating on You rescues me from others who do not set You before their eyes. Praying to You saves me from thoughts that seek after my soul. You are my helper, and You alone uphold my soul. I freely and willingly offer You my heart—impure and stubborn, broken and contrite. I praise Your holy Name because it is so comforting. You deliver me out of all my trouble, and You let me see relief from the enemies of my own insecurities. You draw near and save me. You make me whole and Yours.
CONFESSION
Heavenly Father, Your servant King Solomon humbly asked You for wisdom, understanding and discernment in order to judge and rule over Your people. I confess that I do not receive these because I do not continually ask or seek for them. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and yet I do not wholly honor You as my Creator, nor respect You as You are found in my neighbor. I do not come to You with a humble heart or poor spirit, but rather with selfish pride seeking worldly security. I close my heart to the wisdom and discernment You daily offer me. You speak to me in Your Word, in Your creation, in others and even in dreams, and yet I fail to listen to Your voice.
THANKSGIVING
Holy Spirit, I bless You for the diversity of spiritual gifts which You impart to all whom You renew in Your grace. You are one Lord and one God, and yet You work all things through all varieties of service. You manifest Your power in giving wisdom, knowledge and discernment; faith, healing and miracles; divine messages, speech and instruction. Whatever ability I may lack is supplied by the gift found in another, so that I may learn to work with others for our common good. I thank You for leading me out of the ignorance of my old self and into the understanding of the new person You are forming me to be. And I thank You for inspiring me to confess that Jesus Christ is the Lord.
SUPPLICATION
Lord Jesus Christ, You wept over Jerusalem as You drew near, and You purified the Temple as You went in. As You approach the city of my heart, I pray that You may not weep at the pride You find there. Help me to recognize that You alone provide the things which belong to my peace, and do not hide them from my eyes. As You enter the temple of my mind, cast out anything that does not belong there, any evil thought that robs me of Your gifts of continual devotion and unceasing prayer to You. Teach me daily and grant me understanding, so that at the time of Your visitation, You may find peace within the walls of my heart, and quietness within the fortresses of my mind.
